I would put Capirossi up for the win, Rossi Second and Edwards third...

Camel Yamaha have been putting a lot of pressure on Edwards to get another podium.....I think he will have the motivation....

Rossi is on pole, but mind you, he was not all that quick in Warm up this morning....he was only the ninth fastest runner....the fastest three this morning were

1> Dani Pedrosa - 1'42.510
2> Casey Stoner - 1'42.657
3> Kenny Roberts jnr - 1'43.038

Things could get rather interesting a little later

A few interesting pointers:

> This is the first time Rossi is on pole since the British GP Last year.

> Out of the 30 times Rossi has been on pole, he has gone on to win it 25 times.

> The first 7 riders on the grid are all faster than Gibernau's previous pole record

> If Capirossi finishes in the top 15, he will set a new record for the most point scoring finishes in GP racing (Currently on 194, which he shares with Alex Barros)

> Hayden has been on the podium 9 times out of the last ten MotoGP races.

> Eleventh on the grid for Dani Pedrosa represents his lowest ever dry qualifying position in MotoGP

> Sete Gibernau is in his lowest qualifying position since the USGP last year (13th)

Horrible Horrible accident into the first corner.......My thoughts go out to Marco Melandri, who has been stretchedered off......after the incident, he was not moving, and has been taken away to the hospital for emergency treatment......lets all hope and pray that he is alright!!

My apologies, my computer shut down and would not restart.....I am at an internet cafe now....

I was going to go on to continue on to offer my sympathy to Capirossi and Gibernau, who were also involved in the crash, but I didnt get a chance.....

Here are the latest updates...

> Melandri (like Julian said, is conscious and talking) has been diagnosed with a dislocated collarbone, a neck injury, a concussion & a multitude of other minor injuries.....

Quote from Melandri after doctors announced he was in a stable condition:
"I didn't get away from the line well but I made up a few positions and then the crash - I don't remember anything else. I've got a lot of pain from my shoulder but I am conscious and my memory should improve over time. I want to say thanks to Doctor Costa and all the Clinica Mobile staff who looked after me and stayed by my side."

>Capirossi(who was initially out cold, but regained conciousness a few minutes later) was airlifted to hospital along with Melandri, and underwent scans to his chest (to check that he did not aggravate any internal injuries from last years Australian GP) and to his abdomen which was badly bruised. He will stay in hospital overnight .

>Gibernau is not quite as lucky, as he will need to undergo surgery to fix the fracture to his left collarbone, aswell as the replacement of a plate (From an earlier accident) with a larger plate.
But, due to his concussion he will have to wait 24 hours.

In another twist of bad luck, the ambulance carrying Sete Gibernau to the hospital was involved in an accident with a bus just 50 metres from the hospital entrance, fortunately Sete did not recieve any further injury.

All three riders are in a stable condition, and luckily did not recieve any Major injuries. I wish them all a speedy recovery.....

Rossi took victory today, in a race damped by the injuries of three riders.
The start saw him drop back to sixth place, but he managed to claw his way back through the field.

The second half of the race saw Hayden pushing Rossi, and looking for a way past, although it was not to be, Hayden eventually settled for second place.

The man celebrating most is Kenny Roberts jnr, who, not only got his first podium since the wet british GP last year, but also the first ever podium for his father's Team Roberts outfit

Final finishing positions:

1. Rossi
2. Hayden
3. Roberts Jr
4. Hopkins
5. Edwards
6. Vermeulen
7. Tamada
8. Checa
9. Ellison
10. Hofmann
11. Cardoso

Haven't seen the race......saw the highlights on Speed Channel earlier this evening; let's wish Melandri, Capirossi and Gibernau a speedy(no pun intended) recovery; I think it's safe to say we've seen enough injuries this year........let's hope no one else gets hurt the rest of the year.

BTW, T-K, if I'm not mistaken a few events down the MotoGP calendar is Laguna Seca; I went ahead and put up on a separate thread the weekend event schedule at Laguna Seca(along w/MotoGP the four major national US series, AMA Superbike, Supersport, Superstock and AMA Formula Xtreme are going to be there as well....) Hope this helps you when you post the USGP thread next month.
