Update............position change in LMP-2...........after leading for several hours today, it appears the clock has struck midnight for now for the #37 Intersport Lola-AER being driven by Jon Field, Clint Field and Liz Halliday as an engine misfire has come up, snatching the lead away from them and handing it from the privateers to the works Porsche of Penske Mtrspts. #6, the Porsche RS Spyder driven by Emmanuel Collard, Sascha Maasen and Lucas Luhr. :(

Update...........reports on-track are that the #6 Porsche RS Spyder has stopped on-track........could the storytale win that seemed to disappear for Intersport have come back to them? Globecast radio reporting that the #6 has stopped and there is frantic activity in the Penske paddock.......they did it! the #37 is now the leader, but they lost radio communications early today and Jon Field, who is currently driving, doesn't know he's retaken the lead.....this is getting interesting!!

Sebring Update, 10:10 PM US EST

Post by mlittle » Sun Mar 19, 2006 1:20 pm

The race is currently under yellow, for oil left on track by the #6 Porsche RS Spyder, which did re-fire and make its' way to a dejected Penske paddock(37 minutes remaining).............

1}[LMP-1]#2 Tom Kristensen, Audi R10..........................331 laps
2}[LMP-2]#37 Liz Halliday, Lola B05/40-AER....................-3 laps
3}[LMP-2]#6 Emmanuel Collard, Porsche RS Spyder........-8 laps

5}[GT-1]#009 Pedro Lamy, Aston Martin DBR9................-12 laps
6}[LMP-1]#16 Andy Wallace, Lola B06/10-AER.................-13 laps
7}[GT-1]#3 Max Papis, Corvette C-6R.............................-25 laps
8}[GT-1]#007 Tomas Enge, Aston Martin DBR9.................-26 laps
9}[GT-2]#50 Sebastien Bourdais, Panoz Esp. GTLM...........-28 laps
10}[GT-2]#45 Marc Lieb, Porsche 911 GT3.......................-28 laps

Top three in each class
LMP-1:#2, #16 and #20
LMP-2:#37, #6, and #41
GT-1:#4, #009, and #3
GT-2:#50, #45, and #62(note....all three GT-2 cars in top-3 are w/in 13-14 secs. of each other)

Preparing to return to the green flag.......race control reporting that Penske's 2 Porsches' are no longer running.............it appears that the privateers of Intersport have indeed beaten the works Porsches' of Penske Mtrspts., and the green flag is out; cars' 5-wide down the wide front-straight..........and Kristensen had to dive down into the first 2 turns, just barely keeping Halliday in the Lola from taking first! Meanwhile, back in GT-1, it's a nip and tuck battle btwn. the Corvette of Papis and the DBR9 of Enge, and Enge makes the pass through 3-4-5!! Enge now third in GT-1 and Papis drops to fourth.

14 minutes remaining...........going back to GT-1........Tomas Enge and Max Papis are still neck n' neck, just 1 sec. separating the Aston Martin and Corvette C-6R as they continue to fight for P3 and P4 in class(7th and 8th overall)...........meanwhile, race control reporting that the #6 Porsche RS spyder has returned to the track; however, they are 18 laps off the pace and have fallen to 6th overall(P2 in class). Going back over to GT-1, both Enge and Papis have crossed the start line(about 5 laps left to run) and they are 1.4 secs. apart.....question is, will that DBR9 get very wide and give Mad Max trouble? Stay tuned.........

Battles' continuing in GT-1, w/Enge and Papis now less than 3/4ths of a second for 3rd in class.....meanwhile, Kristensen has crossed the start line, and now there are 4 laps remaining if the laps are consistant........going back to GT-1 and Papis makes a move on Enge through the Carousel onto the start line and Enge holds on to third!! Will the DBR9 score a big upset over the very dominant Corvettes'??

Top 3 in class......
LMP-1:#2, #16 and #20(Kristensen)
LMP-2:#37, #6 and #41(Halliday)
GT-1:#4, #009 and #007(Magnussen)
GT-2:#50, #45 and #62(Bourdais)

And Kristensen wins!!! 349 laps, all led by the Audi R10s, but it will be a 4th Sebring overall win for Tom Kristensen, most for any driver in the history of Sebring............Halliday wins in P2 for Intersport; victory for the privateers!!........and Enge holds off Mad Max for third in GT-1.....and so ends an action-packed 12 Hrs. of Sebring, and there goes Kristensen doing doughnuts on the main straight. For the Audi R10, a historic first win for a turbo-diesel in endurance racing........

Further down the pitlane, there's celebrations in the Intersport paddock, as the trio of Jon Field, Clint Field and Liz Halliday have bested the works Penske Porsches' and won in LMP-2. Meanwhile, the Corvette C-6R of Jan Magnussen, Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta held off the Aston Martin DBR9 of Pedro Lamy, Stephane Sarrazin and Jason Bright. Finally, in GT-2 it was a debut win for the Multimatic trio of Sebastien Bourdais, Scott Maxwell and David Brabham, holding off the Ferrari and Porsche entries from Risi Competizione and Flying Lizard to win GT-2.

Final top-3 from Sebring..........
LMP-1:#2 Kristensen, McNish and Capello, #16 Leitzinger, Wallace and Weaver, and #20 Smith and Dyson
LMP-2:#37 J. Field, C. Field and Halliday; #37 Collard, Maasen and Luhr and #41 Timpany, Binnie and Sutherland
GT-1:#4 Magnussen, Beretta and Gavin; #009 Lamy, Sarrazin and Bright and #007 Enge, Turner and Kiesa
GT-2:#50 Bourdais, Brabham and Maxwell; #45 Lieb, Fogarty and Van Overbeek and #62 Lazzaro, Melo and Kelleners.

Congratulations to all the competitors, and congratulations to the winners tonight in Sebring!!!!      :bounce: :bouncey: :bouncec: :burnout: :bounceg: :bouncest: :burnout:

Corvette vs. Aston Martin to continue

Post by mlittle » Wed Apr 12, 2006 10:04 am

For ALMS officials, the news from Aston Martin couldn't have been better; Aston Martin's DBR9's will continue their fight from Sebring with the dominant Chevrolet Corvette C-6R's through the next two rounds, in Houston and at Mid-Ohio. According to Aston Martin Racing, driver Tomas Enge, Stephane Sarrazin, Pedro Lamy and an unamed fourth driver will race the venerable marque's two GT-1 entries at the next two rounds of the American LeMans Series.
