Legge to test A1GP car

Post by mlittle » Sun Nov 27, 2005 3:09 pm

I'll need a little bit of time to confirm this, but if the autoracing wires are correct, then Atlantic Championship driver Katherine Legge's F1 test must have been excellent. One of the more reliable autoracing newswires (autoracing1.com) is reporting on their rumors page that A1 Team Great Britain prinicpal John Surtees is planning to have her test one of the team's A1 cars at a date/time to be announced.

My guess.....I'd say there's a 60/40 chance now we'll see her on the Champ Car grid in Long Beach, not the Atlantics grid.

It can be uncanny what information rolls by, sometimes. Case in point.....

Apparently, I was right, but it won't be as a mere test. According to speedtv.com(I'll post the appropriate link below), Katherine Legge has been tapped to be A1 Team Britain's reserve driver for the upcoming round in Dubai, and a major reason for it was the excellent test she had with Minardi back in November. As one of Britain's scheduled drivers, she will be allowed to test the 550-hp Lola/Zytek during the course of the race weekend. Like I said above, it's about 60/40 that she'll be on the CC grid in Long Beach.

Dixon to test A1GP car at Dubai

Post by mlittle » Tue Dec 06, 2005 12:53 am

There'll be another new face at the upcoming A1GP round at Dubai this weekend, as 2003 IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon will test for A1 Team New Zealand during the race weekend. According to A1 team principle Bob McMurray,
We have two extra 20-minute test sessions on Friday to give our second chassis a run and it's possible that Scott could drive them to get a basic feeling for the car. We're keen to get his thoughts on the chassis.
As to whether Dixon will race at Laguna Seca when the A1 GP series makes its' American debut in March 2006, he added...
We're still working towards Scott driving the Laguna race, so the Dubai drive is more like a canape before the main course.
Currently, New Zealand sits 4th in the standings, behind France, Switzerland and Brazil.

Carpentier to drive for Team Canada?

Post by mlittle » Tue Jan 17, 2006 5:10 am

Here is the link in question....
www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/roadracing/21576/

According to the article, Team Canada is intent upon signing NA open-wheel veteran Patrick Carpentier to drive for them when the A1GP travels to its' two North American stops, Fundidora Park, Monterrey, Mexico, and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Carpentier would replace their current driver, British Formula Renault driver Sean McIntosh, who has one podium at the EuroSpeedway(Laustizring) and has helped Canada to its' current 10th place spot in the A1GP standings.

Scratch the above; Target/Ganassi Racing announced yesterday that they have told Scott Dixon in no uncertain terms that he will not be allowed to race w/A1's Team New Zealand. Essentially the reason boiled down to the fact that w/a new teammate(Wheldon), new engines(Honda) and new chassis(Dallara), the team just couldn't afford to let Dixon race in the A1GP this year.
