They just wrapped up Busch Series qualifying earlier this afternoon for the season-opening Orbitz 300 at Daytona International Speedway and leading the field to green Saturday afternoon will be Aric Amirola, who set the fastest time midway through qual. w/a time of 48.982 sec(183.741 mph); as for Marcos Ambrose, who makes his Busch Series debut tomorrow, it wasn't so good, as he'll start in 40th place, setting a time of 49.788 sec(180.766 mph)...........good luck to everyone Saturday! 8) 8) 8) :burnout: :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

Marcus is quoted here as saying, " I dont want to be up front.........just want to stay away from the carnage........come home strong in the second half.........these boys have a lot of tricks I dont know yet............let 'em go practice on each other"......I read that to mean if he stuck the thing on pole he would be in the wall on lap 1

BTW, Ambrose made it through the race, finishing on the lead lap in 17th place. Next stop..........Fontana and the 2-mile wicked-fast California Speedway.

One of our top drivers, Craig Lowndes, forecast that once Ambrose had a handle on things, he would flog JPM  :D

Marcos actually qualified the thing in race trim, and the plan was to get owner points, to guarantee a start after the fifth race (by being inside the top 35 in the points), he plans to open it up a tad at California, then have a red hot go at the Mexico road course.

Busch Series practice was earlier today and Ambrose was 13th-fastest at 177.708 mph(40.516 sec)...........the interesting irony about this week's race is that, for only the fifth time since Daytona 2001, the field will not be at 43 cars but only will be 41 cars strong........ :shock2:

He's going to have to work for it this evening; he spun and crashed during qualifying, meaning that he'll get to ride shotgun on the field for tonight's race........
