Regulations - Major Changes
Following the acceptance of the 2008 Formula One
Sporting Regulations by the World Motor Sport Council, here are the major
changes from the current 2006 Sporting Regulations:
Applications to compete in the Championship can be submitted between the
24th and 31st of March 2006
The $48 Million dollar deposit required from a new team to enter the
competition is no longer required
List of cars and drivers accepted will be published on the 28th of April
2006
A maximum of 30,000 kilometres of testing during a calendar year.
A single tyre manufacturer will be chosen by tender for the 2008, 2009 and
2010 Formula One Seasons.
All cars must be fitted with a car positioning system manufactured by the
FIA designated supplier.
No spare cars
An engine must last 2 consecutive events. Penalty will be the addition of
15 kilograms to the minimum weight of the car each time an engine is changed.
Engine development freeze for the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons. Only
engines homologated by the the FIA maybe used.
A gearbox must last 4 consecutive events. Penalty will be the addition of
15 kilograms to the minimum weight of the car each time a gearbox is changed.
Cars are deemed to be in parc ferme from 18:30 on the first day of
practice.
There will be a maximum of 20 events in a season and a minimum of 8.
Not a change but a reminder that a maximum of 24 cars will be allowed in the
competition.
