13 May: Testing Report - Paul Ricard - Day 3

Date: Wednesday, May 13th, 2005
Location: Paul Ricard, France
Drivers: Pedro de la Rosa and Alex Wurz
Weather: Mainly cloudy
Track temperature: 35 degrees Celsius
Air temperature: 21 degrees Celsius
Laps run: Pedro de la Rosa 108, Alex Wurz 38
Kilometres covered: Pedro de la Rosa 442km, Alex Wurz 202km
Duration of test: Three days

The Team McLaren Mercedes team today completed a three day testing programme at the Paul Ricard circuit in France.

All four drivers - Kimi, Juan Pablo, Alex and Pedro - have been in action this week, behind the wheel of MP4-20s.

The first two days of the test were focused on Michelin tyre testing for the forthcoming Monaco Grand Prix, with the team using a short configuration circuit (3.593 km). Kimi and Alex were present on the first day, with Kimi and Juan Pablo testing on day two.

Today saw Alex joined by Pedro on the longer 5.216 km circuit focusing on Michelin tyre testing programme for the Canadian Grand Prix. Alex had an accident this afternoon at the fastest point on the circuit, the cause of which is currently being investigated. Alex was taken to the medical centre for checks where he was given the all clear. The car however was beyond repair, so his test ended prematurely. As a result of the accident, all the teams present at the circuit then used a different track configuration (3.551 km) for the remainder of the day. Pedro had a productive day and finished testing at 19:00h (CET) completing 108 laps.

Alex Wurz
"It was unfortunate that the programme ended early today, as we had been progressing well. I am OK and feeling fine, and was just disappointed that due to the damage to the car, I was not able to carry on with the day's programme."

Pedro de la Rosa
"Despite Alex's accident we had a constructive day and we have gained some interesting data. We now have a very good understanding towards which Michelin tyre we will use at the Montreal race."
